Stump Grinding in Ogden & Weber County

That leftover stump doesn’t have to stay. We grind it below grade so you can replant, sod, or pave right over it.

A stump is more than an eyesore — it’s a tripping hazard, a mower-killer, and an open invitation to carpenter ants and fungus. Tree Easy grinds stumps of any size across Ogden and Weber County, turning that stubborn leftover into usable ground again.

Why grind the stump

  • Reclaim the space — replant grass, set a garden bed, or pour a patio where the stump was.
  • Kill the trip hazard — no more catching a foot or a mower blade on hidden roots.
  • Stop the pests — a rotting stump draws ants, beetles, and fungus toward the rest of your yard.
  • Stop the sprouts — many species send up shoots from a live stump; grinding ends the regrowth.

What’s included

  • Grinding the stump below grade so it disappears under the surface.
  • Grinding surface roots that radiate from the stump where practical.
  • Backfilling with the grindings, or hauling them off — whichever you prefer.
  • A raked, tidy spot ready for whatever comes next.

How the job goes

1. Free estimate and locate

We look at the stump, the access, and check that the area is clear of anything that shouldn’t meet a grinder. We’ll ask you to point out sprinkler heads and lines near the stump.

2. Grind it out

The grinder’s cutting wheel chips the stump and major roots down into mulch, working below ground level so nothing is left poking up.

3. Fill and clean up

We backfill the hole with grindings and mound it slightly to allow for settling, or haul the material away — then rake the area clean.

Still have the tree, too? If you need the tree down first, we can remove it and grind the stump in one visit — see tree removal.

Local crew, clean finish

Stump grinding is the step that actually makes a yard whole again after a tree comes out, and we treat it that way — not as an afterthought. Tree Easy is Ogden-based, fully licensed and insured, and we finish the job so the ground is ready to use. Call for a free estimate and we’ll get that stump gone.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?

Grinding uses a machine to chip the stump down into mulch, several inches below ground level, leaving the roots to decay naturally in place. Full stump removal pulls the entire root ball out, which is far more invasive and tears up the surrounding yard. For almost every homeowner, grinding is the faster, cleaner, cheaper choice.

How far down do you grind?

We grind the stump below grade — typically several inches under the surface — so you can cover it with soil and replant grass, lay sod, or build over it. If you’re planning to plant a new tree in the same spot, tell us and we’ll grind deeper.

What do you do with the grindings?

The grinding produces a pile of wood mulch. We can rake it back into the hole and mound it (it settles as it decays), haul it away, or leave it for you to use as mulch — your call.

Can you grind a stump in a tight or fenced backyard?

Usually, yes. Stump grinders come in different sizes, including machines that fit through a standard gate. If access is tight, mention it when you call so we bring the right equipment.
